Fatimah Asghar is a poet, screenwriter, educator and performer. Her work has appeared in many journals, including POETRY Magazine, Gulf Coast, BuzzFeed Reader, The Margins, The Offing, and the Academy of American Poets. Her work has been featured on news outlets like PBS, NPR, Time, Teen Vogue, and Huffington Post. In 2011 she created a spoken word poetry group in Bosnia and Herzegovina called REFLEKS while on a Fulbright studying theater in post-genocidal countries. She is a member of the Dark Noise Collective, a 2017 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship recipient, and a Kundiman Fellow. Her debut poetry collection, If They Come For Us, was published by One World and has gone onto critical acclaim, including a write-up in The New York Times. Her forthcoming debut novel, a coming-of-age story about three orphaned sisters surviving girlhood together, will also be published by One World. She wrote and co-created BROWN GIRLS, an Emmy nominated web series highlighting friendship among women of color, which is being developed for television with 3 Arts and MXN Entertainment producing.
