Maria De Sanctis

Writer/Director
Los Angeles/Toronto
Maria De Sanctis is a Canadian writer and director, born and raised in Toronto. She received her BFA with Honours from York University’s Film Production program. In December 2015, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) listed Maria’s undergraduate thesis film, "Cupid," as one of the top ten student films of that year. Maria continued her studies in Los Angeles with an MFA in Film and Television Production from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. There, Maria directed several short films and was selected out of hundreds of students to co-direct her first feature film, "Samir," funded by Warner Bros and starring Peter Greene (Pulp Fiction, The Mask). Her thesis film “Father by Law” will be having its World Premiere at Austin Film Festival, starring William Russ (Boy Meets World, American History X). Maria is now working full time as a writer and director. She puts herself into the characters and emotion of any story she tells. She loves films that are personal and come from the heart, which pushes her to try and reciprocate that for someone else when she is creating. Her childhood, friends, and family define much of who she is and the work she makes, giving a voice to herself as a filmmaker and the wonderful people in her life.
